Relative newcomers to the tabletop wargaming scene, Rubicon Models have continued to consistently deliver some of the best 28mm WWII scale model tanks and vehicles money can buy. Most recently they’ve decided to focus on creating some expansion kits for their existing model range, giving history buffs the ability to build exactly the variants they’re after when it comes to battlefield deployments. These sets, alongside another stand alone vehicle, are set to arrive in the very near future, so let’s have a look at them.
The new SdKfz 250/3 & 251/3 Expansion Set will allow you to create four different builds using the existing SdKfz 250/251 base kit. The box contains all the parts necessary to create two variants of both the The SdKfz 250/3 and SdKfz 251/3. Have a look at all the options in the images below;

These vehicles were commonly fitted with extra radio equipment and antennae for use by German army commanders during the early stages of the war on the Eastern Front. A key feature of this kit is not only the ability to build Rommel’s famous command vehicle “Greif” but also the inclusion of a miniature representing Rommel himself. You’ll also find additional models that can be used as crew riding around in your variant of choice.
Expanding on the SdKfz 251 base kit, you’ll now be able to add either a Ausf C or D variant of the SdKfz 251/16 to your collection. In addition to the standard forward machine gun mount these versions were fitted with two flame projectors.

Named Flammpanzerwagens, they were commonly issued to Panzergrenadier regiments and Pioneer battalions and were feared by Allied infantry for their deadly firepower. Once again, Rubicon have included scale accurate miniatures with this kit to add to the already highly detailed model.
There’s less available options to build with this kit, but the upgrade should still be quite welcome to commanders looking to boost their firepower out there.
Simply known as the “Pakwagen” this variant was one of the most effective AT support vehicles the German army deployed. Equipped with a high velocity PaK 40 L/46 or L/48 they were commonly found providing defensive actions across the eastern and western fronts. Everything you need to upgrade your existing SdKfz 251 Ausf D to this unique and deadly vehicle is included in the kit, along with some crew members to help bring it to life.
Unlike the previous kits mentioned, the The SdKfz 250/1 Neu is a stand alone kit which can be used as a base kit for all SdKfz 250 based expansions. It features a detailed chassis interior and three figures for the, Driver, MG Gunner and Officer roles on the vehicle.
Heaps of awesome stuff there on offer, plenty of options for recreating things as accurately as possible, while also giving people the ability to get creative with a bit of kit-bashing. Place an order if your keen, or await their eventual arrival in the near future.
