There’s been a few big announcements from the Gama Trade Show over in Las Vegas recently, but one that’s captured the attention of long time Games Workshop followers is Shadow War: Armageddon.

Details are quite thin at the moment, so far we know that the stand alone box set will feature models and rules for a squad level game set amongst in the hive cities of Armageddon. Possibly the most exciting revelation is that the rule set is heavily inspired by the original Necromunda game of years past, including options to advance your squad members between missions. The box set will not only included their famously detailed plastic miniatures, but also some equally high quality plastic terrain. The included miniatures will focus on Blood Angels and Orks, but plans have already been announced to add at least a dozen more in the future. A list of the compatible squads was actually announced not long ago over at Warhammer Community:

  • Skitarii Rangers
  • Chaos Space Marines
  • Cultists
  • Dark Eldar Wyches
  • Dire Avengers
  • Eldar Guardians
  • Harlequin Troupe
  • Grey Knights Strike Squad
  • Necron Immortals
  • Necron Warriors
  • Tau Empire Pathfinder Team
  • Tyranid Warrior Brood
  • Neophyte Hybrids
  • Scouts
  • Scouts with sniper rifles
  • Cadian Infantry Squad
  • Ork Boyz

They’ve designed the rules to fit around the miniatures that you’re already using in your existing Warhammer 40,000 armies, allowing existing fans to jump into this game nice and easily. For a more in depth look, check out the video below and the full press releases can be found here and here.

We’re sure there will be plenty more information to arrive in the future, but this alone is pretty exciting news for fans of both Warhammer 40,000 and Necromunda.
