The local gamers up in Brisbane will once again be putting on what looks to be another awesome Briscon for all of us this year.
Running over the May Day weekend (Saturday 29/04/2017 – Sunday 30/04/2017) at the QTTC; 86 Green Terrace, Windsor, Queensland, Australia. The convention will be open to the public, is set to play host to gamers from all over the country and is being run by the Brisbane Gaming Society.
Formed in 2016 by a group of Brisbane based gamers who, after a trip to CanCon, dreamed of bringing back a local convention for in their home town. After an few years of absence they successfully revived the BrisCon concept last year – putting on a stellar event that was well praised by the wargaming community. This year promises to improve on those initial first steps by offering more of the same high quality experience attendees experienced last year.
Let’s have a look at the games with supporting tournaments that have been announced so far:
Quite a large selection of games there which should provide a wide variety of options to suite almost any taste. You can find all the associated sign up sheets and tournament packs here.
Not limiting themselves to wargamers, the convention will also be hosting some Board Game tournaments thanks to local sponsor Vault Games. Charging just $5.00 AUD for each game or $12.00 AUD for a weekend pass, the little tournaments being run here should provide heaps of fun for board game enthusiasts of all levels. Information about the games and sign ups can be found at the bottom of this page.
Demo games will also be run over the weekend, with a big focus on historical games like Pike and Shotte and Wings of Glory. Participation games are a really awesome way to get new people involved in the hobby and are often run by dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers keen on bringing our hobby to new faces. Check out the full list of possible experiences over on their website.
It’s just not a convention without providing heaps of cool stuff for people to buy while they’re there and the folks at he Brisbane Gaming Society look to accommodate attendees very well here. With a nice big space dedicated to various miniature and hobby traders (including yours truly from The Combat Company) there will also be a fantastic Bring and Buy set up.
It just doesn’t seem to be a proper convention these days without a place where we can trade all the awesome things we’ve collected over the years – while allowing us the funds to upgrade to new stuff! The Bring and Buy will have it’s own dedicated space and all the usual trimmings you’d find at other familiar conventions and will be running over both convention days. Head on over to their website to fill out a form if you’re at all interested in jumping on board with this.
It all looks to be a very exciting event, with heaps of cool games to check out and plenty of awesome stuff to purchase. Definitely have a look at their website if you’re part of the local scene or keen on making the trip up. We hope to see everyone there!
